SEAN LEMASS
1899–1971

On Tuesday April 25^th Sean Lemass, just 16 years old and armed with a shotgun, took his position on the roof of the GPO. He was later to become Taoiseach of Ireland from 1959–1966.
Lemass was regarded by many historians as the greatest of all Irish political leaders and was credited with laying the foundations of modern economic success in Ireland.
