Padraig H Pearse
PADRAIG H PEARSE
1879-1916
Born in 1879, Pearse dedicated himself to the ideal of an Independent Irish-speaking nation and his writings and speeches played an important part in the revival of the national spirit.
In the Rising, he was President of the Provisional Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Irish Forces.
On Easter Monday, Pearse read the Proclamation of Independence in front of the GPO (General Post Office). He was executed on 30th May, 1916.
